Tenor Kyle Stegall has been celebrated internationally for his captivating performances and depth of communication. His album “Myrtle and Rose” with Fortepianist, Eric Zivian, has garnered international success, praised for Stegall’s “clean articulation,” “stylish performance,” and “passionate communication” (Klassiek Centraal Belgium, Europadisc, Gramophone).
Stegall has earned degrees in voice performance from the universities of Missouri, Michigan, and Yale and has been mentored by luminaries such as Martin Katz, Caroline Helton, James Taylor, Ted Taylor, Ian Bostridge, and Christoph Pregardien. He is credited as “one of the finest evangelists of his generation” (Classical Music Daily UK) and made his Lincoln Center debut as the evangelist in Bach’s St. John Passion under the direction of Masaaki Suzuki.
Stegall has worked with top conductors including Manfred Honeck, Joseph Flummerfelt, Stephen Stubbs, Kathleen Allan, and Matilda Hoffman. Described as “an appealing hero” with “voice arcing beautifully” (OperaWire) and praised for his “clarity and urgency” (Opera News), he is also celebrated on the operatic stage for his engaging presence and skillful stagecraft in repertoire spanning baroque through contemporary works. Representative among his operatic credits are the roles of Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Tomasso in Laura Schwendinger's Artemisia, Laurie in Adamo’s Little Women and the title role of Hippolyte as a guest artist for Juilliard Opera's production of Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie.
Stegall's most recent album features premiere commercial recordings of five works by Anne Cawrse, Adolphus Hailstork, Harry Sdraulig, Rosephanye Powell, and B.E. Boykin. He has also been invited twice as a Fellow in the Britten-Pears Programme at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, where he did intensive studies in Schubert Lieder and Britten artsongs. Kyle is bringing his extensive recital performance and programming experience to his new role as Co-Artistic Director with Penelope Cashman of “Magpie Artsong,” a recital series based in Adelaide, South Australia.
